The Middle Layer

Middle Layer: Programs

The Middle Layer should be approximately three quarters mile (1400 yds) in radius measured from the village duck pond. All roads continue to be subject to a maximum 30mph speed limit, and the driver will be subject to reinforcement of the speed limit. The village map identifies the same six significant roads that capture different directions drivers may take when crossing the Middle Layer.

The size and location of the Middle Layer is subject for agreement with all interested stakeholders.

The message should be focussed on reinforcing the speed limit prescribed at the Outer Layer.  At the Middle Layer, the message should focus on the speed limit, but HVS suggest that the message would be reinforced if the driver were subject to different sensory experience.

The installation of Vehicle Activated Signs may be appropriate on specific roads that could not harness a chicane.  Various signs exist but the use of flashing information, and the use of red as it is associated with danger, containing a very specific targeted message provide the best affect.

The following suggestions are proposed for discussion:

  • A speed hump or a chicane could be incorporated on the middle layer on the A321;

  • A chicane could be incorporated where the road naturally narrows outside the Green Man;

  • A "speed cameras warning sign" could be incorporated that devices are installed in the village.
